Most of us know celery as the "negative calorie food", meaning you burn off more calories as you eat celery than your body absorbs after eating it. Although this is false, it is not really that far off!
Celery is one of the most powerful anti-inflammatory foods, because it starves unproductive bacteria, yeast, mold, fungus, and viruses that are present in the body and flushes their toxins and debris out of the intestinal tract and liver. It is an excellent source of antioxidants, calcium (2 cups of raw celery have 81 mg), vitamin K, vitamin C, potassium, folate and vitamin B6. I just read a study today in the Journal of Medicinal Food that concluded celery seed extracts has antihypertensive properties, which of course means it has the potential to LOWER BLOOD PRESSURE! Celery has been used throughout history to lower blood pressure. In fact, Hippocrates, the father of medicine, claimed that celery calms the nerves.
Celery raises the hydrochloric acid in the stomach so food digests with ease. If you want help with improving kidney function, restoring your adrenals, or bringing ease to your mind and thought patterns, you may want to add celery to your grocery list! The mineral salts in celery feed the electrical impulse activity and support neuron function in the brain. This is very important for those with ADHD or memory issues.
Our bodies are self healing organisms. We are brilliantly equipped with natural self-repair mechanisms that fight infectious agents, kill the cancer cells we produce every day, repair broken proteins, and naturally fight the aging process. Our bodies maintain a healthy temperature, our lungs don't forget to breath, our hearts beat. I know I am over simplifying!
The point is, if we start adding more foods to our diet that EMPOWER and NOURISH our bodies we only support the bodies natural healing response! CHEERS TO CELERY!
